Pure Comedy - Father John Misty

Okay the moment has finally come for me to reveal the BEST album of 2017...... *Drum Roll*...... Pure Comedy by Father John Misty!

Listen, I know it's two years late and I should have posted this 5ever ago... cut me some slack (https://magicconchmusic.blogspot.com/2019/01/new-year-same-goals.html). 

Anyways, Father John Misty, AKA Josh Tillman, AKA J. Tillman, AKA past member of Fleet Foxes, AKA the love of Leah Kemple's life, is THE MAN. He's the best song writer that our generation will see and he's groovy... truly groovy.

Tillman's whole gag is attacking social norms and bringing attention to the corrupt and insane parts of life that we have become desensitized to. The best songs on the album are Ballad of the Dying Man, Smoochie and Total Entertainment Forever. If there's any advice that you ever decide to take from an odd, wannabe wordsmith, please listen to any Father John Misty songs. Pure Comedy is my least favorite album from him, but still the best thing that was created in 2017.

WALLS - Kings of Leon

One of my favorite albums that was released in 2016 was WALLS by Kings of Leon (I think I actually listed it as number 4 on ‘My Top Albums For 2016). It’s actually funny that I liked the album so much because I have never really been a huge fan of Kings of Leon’s music before. Anyways, this album was released on Oct. 14 and WALLS is an acronym for “We Are Like Love Songs”. The title speaks to what’s going on with the album. I’ve heard that a lot of music reviewers are putting this album in a negative light because it’s not as grungy and hard as previous works from Kings of Leon. I personally like it, but that’s probably because I tend to enjoy softer and slower sounds. The first song on the album, “Waste a Moment” was released first and it’s actually what drew me (and plenty of others) into the album. Jah Lion

This past weekend, I was given the opportunity to see the band Jah Lion perform live and interview one of the members. The reggae band played a set at The Bay, a bar in my hometown of Warrensburg on Saturday. This was their third time playing in Warrensburg.             Jah Lion consists of five band members that all play unique instruments. Drummer, Arthur Seabury, sat down and with me and a few other UCM students to answer a few questions about the band.             Seabury is from Sedalia, but currently lives in Kansas City. He visits Jamaica every so often and plays his music there. Cold War Kids & The Greeting Committee

I recently had the opportunity to see Cold War Kids live at The Blue Note in Columbia, Missouri. It was actually a crazy last minute deal because a friend of mine had bought tickets for her and some family members and the family members dropped out, so I ended up getting to see a great show out of the deal. I had been wanting to see them for a while, so I was pretty stoked. One of my favorite Kansas City bands, The Greeting Committee played and as always, they were fantastic. I’m always so flabbergasted when I see them live because it hits me that they’re really young kids with amazing talent. Cold War Kids came on after The Greeting Committee finished their set, and everyone went crazy. There were people of all ages at the show. Two kids who couldn’t have been more than 8 were right in front of me dancing and singing along to every song.
